Three Things to Consider when Planning a Destination Wedding
Updated: Jul 9
A destination wedding is an amazing option to consider when planning your special day.
From a beach in the Caribbean to an Italian vineyard or Las Vegas’ Little White Wedding chapel with Elvis as officiant... the options are endless and there is certainly something for everyone.
Before starting your destination wedding planning journey, here are my top 3 things to consider: -
1. Is it legal - Not all destination wedding ceremonies are legally recognised in the UK, so it is important to ask this question. It isn’t a challenge if the ceremony isn’t recognised, as long as you know this. If this is known a simple registrar ceremony can be organised before you jet off to your destination.
2. Weather - It is important to consider the weather. It is assumed that it will always be sunny and dry in the Caribbean, however, there is a reason why it is so green, and that reason is rain. But most rain showers do pass over within 10 minutes. With this example in mind, it is important to investigate the weather conditions of the destination you are looking at, this way you have an idea of what expect, hopefully avoiding any surprises. I am not suggesting not booking a beautiful Saint Lucia wedding because it might rain, no, no, just look at the weather trends and consider all options. Knowledge is key.
3. Honeymoon - What to do about your honeymoon when you get married in a honeymoon location... Whilst it might sound like a wonderful idea to have friends and family with you on your honeymoon, the reality is very different. The purpose of a honeymoon is to celebrate privately with you new spouse and spend quality time together after what can be a stressful time planning your perfect wedding. So my advice is choose wisely. A good option could be to have a week at your wedding destination and then a day or two after the wedding go somewhere else, alone. Because most people will have to use both holiday work time and money to attend your destination wedding, they are going to want to make the most of it and enjoy a break too. But as newlyweds you will be the center of attention and in great demand by all of your specially chosen guests.
